Core powers up local hospice
- Friday, September 07, 2007
Leading multi-utility company Core Utility Solutions has donated St Margaret of Scotland Hospice in Clydebank with nearly £3000 worth of work by installing and connecting a new electricity cable to supply the Hospice and its new wing.
The Hospice launched its New Build Appeal Campaign in June 2006 to raise £1.6 million towards a £4.6million project.
This building will provide single and twin rooms featuring 30 beds allowing greater privacy and dignity for patients in the care of the Hospice. The new cable will allow for the increased supply of electricity to the Hospice.
Alexander Allan, Project Engineer at Core said: “This was a job which required a lot of man power as we were unable to use our usual tools and equipment but it was for a very worthy cause.”
“The area around the new wing where the electricity cable was fitted is land-locked meaning the trench for the cable had to be dug by hand as the team were unable to access the area with a mechanical digger.”
“St Margaret of Scotland Hospice should be recognised and rewarded for all the work they do for the local community and Scotland and this is just a small gesture from Core to help them continue their good work.”
St Margaret of Scotland Hospice was the first hospice in Scotland when it opened its doors in Clydebank in 1950. The hospice, which is the largest in Scotland, has been developed to provide 60 beds – 30 for Palliative Care and 30 for care of Older Adults with complex medical and nursing needs. It also provides Day Care, Home Care, Out-patient facilities and Counselling Services.
Sister Rita, Chief Executive at the Hospice comments: “We are delighted to receive this support from Core. They have made an excellent contribution by supplying the electricity to the New Wing with little disruption to the Hospice. We are very grateful for this help.”
Ogilvie Construction Ltd is the main contractor for the construction of the new wing at the hospice.
