Multi-utility infrastructure solutions company designs state-of-the-art new vehicle in association with Mercedes
Core has teamed up with Mercedes to launch a fleet of specially designed state-of-the-art vehicles in an industry first deal.
The 16 new 32 tonne grab wagons and five new hot boxes have been created by Mercedes to Core’s specifications and represent a major advance in health and safety design.
Core has invested over £1.7 million in its new fleet of vehicles, pushing the company to the forefront of technical excellence in the multi-utility infrastructure services industry.
The new hot boxes were designed to overcome health and safety issues faced by drivers involved in replacing gas tanks fitted to the lorries, which are designed to work the heat systems on the trucks.
Gary Darley, Transport Manager for Core said: “A gas tank is now permanently fitted to each hot box and these are refilled using LPG whenever the driver fills up with diesel.
“On top of the health and safety benefits, following the removal of the individual tanks, we have saved two working days per calendar month.
The new vehicles also all have full 360 degree vision, with reverse cameras installed, where necessary. In addition, all new lorries over 3.5 tonnes have a digital tachograph fitted, which record vehicle mileage and the driver’s hours"
“This is just the start of our vehicle developments we want to make sure that all of our drivers and workers are working in a safe environment, this is just as important for our vehicles as it is on site.” continued Gary. “We are also looking at various ways to reduce our carbon footprint.
“We are trialling LPG vehicles and are continuously looking at the locations of our vehicles and depots compared with customer demand in a bid to keep mileage down.”
